About the Shuter Library
Our History
The Angel Fire Community Library was started in 1978 in a back room of the Angel Fire Country Club by seven ladies who found out their beloved bookmobile was not going to make it that day. Now, three decades and a name change later, the Shuter Library is an independent, incorporated, and registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our current building, opened in 2002, is owned in full by the library thanks to the fund-raising efforts of the Friends of the Library, and the generosity of the Shuter Family among many others. The Library is operated by a nine-member Board of Directors, some 50 volunteers and one paid Director. Our collection currently holds roughly 10,000 print and audio books, as well as educational DVDs, a medical reference desk and a dedicated southwest collection.

Membership is open to all who live in the Enchanted Circle, completely free of initial cost. Patrons are limited to five items on loan at any one time. Most of our items circulate for three weeks; however, DVDs are restricted to a one week check-out period. We do levy fines on overdue materials at a rate of $0.20 per day, the exception being DVDs, which accrue fines at a rate of $1.00 per day. Temporary memberships are available, please inquire at the library or by calling us.
Public Access Computing
We currently offer five public access computers free of charge for public use. The public computers offer an internet browser, as well as common office productivity software. In order to accomodate all that wish to use the computers, patrons are limited to two 45 minute sessions per day, with a two hour separation between sessions. Additional sessions may be granted at the discretion of Library staff. Unfortunately, at this time we are unable to accept reservations for our public computers. Computers generously donated by the Angel Fire Community Foundation.

We offer two computers intended for use by children, free of charge. These computers are not connected to the internet, but offer dozens of educational games intended for children of all ages.
